What is your book about?
After the abduction of my son I followed the promptings of my soul, which led me into the world of equine therapy and the eventual reunion with my son, after an eight-year separation.
What inspired you to write your book?
I wanted my son to know I hadn’t given up on him and never stopped loving him. I wanted him to know my story without making it about revenge and all about my love for him and myself.
Can you describe your writing process?
It was all over the place at first. I was uncomfortable much of the time until I had periods of ease with thoughts turning into written words. Much of my process has to do with trusting myself to hear Spirit and putting down in words what I’m hearing and feeling. My written work as well as my speaking comes from the heart. I have to be in a quiet place, preferably with a view, so I can see what the physical world is conveying to me.
How did you come to do what you’re doing today?
By following my intuition. I’ve participated in several writers workshops, including the last Maui Writers Workshop in 2015, where Dr.Wayne Dyer was one of the presenters. When I receive a prompting from my soul and see the physical signs in my life, I know that’s Spirit’s way of communicating with me.
Can you describe a typical day in your life?
I don’t think anything is quite typical for me at this point, but these are some of the things I like to incorporate in my day. Meditation, reading, and lemon water in the morning. Making a healthy meal or two to go with me to work. I like to connect with friends and family over the phone or Skype and when I get home, build a fire and watch the sunset over the Owyhee mountains. I usually have several books I’m reading, so I read before I go to sleep.
What do you most enjoy about what you do?
I love to connect with my audience and meet people. I’m always fulfilled by the feedback I get and I enjoy knowing that my story gives hope to others. I’m enjoying the evolution of my journey as it’s growing into live retreats for women. To share the healing power of horses, the enjoyment of one’s beauty, and the connection to other women is not just life-transforming but fun! I like the challenge of speaking in person as well as on podcasts that feature women that are on the leading edge of their transformation.
Are there any people and/or books that have inspired you along your journey?
So many. There was a man named Brother Andre. I became friends to the sisters of a Catholic church and they introduced me to him and his life’s work. My life was forever changed by his profound example of prayer and faith. Others include Louise Hay, authors at Hay House, Wayne Dyer, Robert Holden, Dr. Nancy Lambert, my sister Michelle and her husband, the Tutter group, Mike and Andy Dooley’s work, Dr.Valerie Valentine, Pasha Hogan and her work, Laura Hillenbrand’s Unbroken, Thich Nhat Hanh, and many others.
Can you share something that people may be surprised to learn about you?
I took accordion lessons with Weird Al—also known as Alfred Yankovic! I’ve trekked to 16,700 feet in the Himalayas, swam with wild spotted dolphins in the Bahama Banks, traveled with Diane Lane and Donald Sutherland on a film in Japan and China as their makeup and hair artist, and now engage in the world of wild horses as their advocate, finding them good homes.
What’s next for you?
I’m offering Wonder and Beauty Retreats for women that include non-mounted horse activities, beauty makeovers, yoga, and vision boarding in Nampa, Idaho this year. This is a two-day retreat for women. The dates are May 26-27 and October 6-7, 2018. I also have a podcast coming out soon with Dr. Barb on the subjects of horses and emotional healing, and another podcast that focuses on beauty tips and secrets on aging the way you want to. I’m incorporating equine coaching as well as coaching via Skype through the Infinite Possibility Training Program this year. If you’re interested in the retreats or the opportunity to be coached, you can sign up on my website, beautyhealsyou.com or charlamiller.com. Or you can email me at charla@beautyhealsyou.com.
